What is a Writer?
A writer is someone who writes. If you can’t think of anything, write gibberish. Random words, made up words, repeat something from memory, or copy a newspaper. Newspapers generate hundreds of opinion columns every day as a writing exercise by journalists who are secretly working on a book. Take a break, delete the gibberish, and have another go. That should see you up to lunchtime.
Discipline
Discipline is a tool used to make you do things you don’t want to do. If you are motivated to write, you may need discipline to force breaks for eating and sleeping. If you feel that you lack the discipline to write, see a therapist instead.
Ideas
Everyone has a hundred ideas every day. First, learn to listen to your inner voice, then, learn to express that voice on paper. If you practice enough you will soon have too many ideas to use them all.
Making things up and self-publishing
See above. Also, you almost certainly know at least two people who have self published a book or a blog. If you can’t identify them now, start a meetup, they will come.
